Nearly two million Moroccans work in the crafts sector, which contributes significantly to the country's GDP. However, during the previous 15 years, more than half of the artisans who thrived in the market were fleeing it, and the new Moroccan generation rejected becoming artisans.
This current state of artisan disempowerment and marginalization from business knowledge is owing to the monopolization of the craft industry by middlemen and obsolete, unfavorable policies.
This long-term project showcases "The Anou Community" an initiative created and solely owned and managed by a group of artisans themselves to address this inefficient and broken system and restore power to the workforce. A path out of exploitation and toward reforming the craft market by allowing artisans in Morocco's rural and urban areas to sell their products directly online, manage their business operations, and ensure that the total resulting wealth stays in the hands of the artisans, preserving the craft, the living conditions, the culture, the water, and the crops.
